New Initiative Brings Seneca College Students and the Canadian e-Business Industry Closer Together

TORONTO, November 12, 2001 - The eCustomer World Institute was pleased to welcome Seneca College students to eCustomer World 2001, Canada’s eBusiness Conference and Exposition, as part of a new initiative to help bring students and industry closer together.

Through the cooperation between the faculty of Seneca College’s School of Marketing and e-Business and the eCustomerWorld Institute, more than 50 students were given the opportunity to take an active role in this important annual industry event.

Over the course of the 3-day event, the students helped with the staging of various educational venues at both the Conference and the Exposition. Their presence at the event provided them with an excellent first-hand opportunity to learn about the latest eBusiness innovations and market trends, as well as to network with the movers, shakers and decision makers of this industry.

"Both educators and students have an on-going challenge to keep pace with the changes that are taking place in the Canadian eBusiness industry," said Jacob Gordon, president and CEO of the eCustomerWorld Institute. "The industry is expecting Canadian colleges and universities to supply an constant stream of qualified and knowledgeable candidates for employment to meet the growing demands of this fast-paced industry. At the same time, educators are working diligently to provide their students with the skills and know-how that will ease their integration into the workforce and position them for successful careers in this competitive market. We trust that this initiative between Seneca College and the eCustomerWorld Institute will help overcome this insurmountable challenge."

Corinne Falconer, chair, School of Marketing and e-Business said, "I strongly support the opportunities for students and industry to work together. The eCustomer World 2001 Conference and Exposition gave Seneca’s Marketing students an excellent ‘hands-on’ experience. Participating students applied their College education in an important industry forum and brought back valuable lessons... that they subsequently integrated and applied in their program of study. We are proud of our students and thank the eCustomerWorld Institute for their foresight and collaboration."
